From the WWE Rumor Mill: Plans for WWE Mixed Match Challenge Finals changed?

Bliss and Strowman were supposed to be in the MMC finals
Bliss and Strowman were supposed to be in the MMC finals

What's the story?

The Mixed Match Challenge has entered the Quarter Final Stage, with The Miz and Asuka advancing in last week's episode. According to Wrestling Observer, as reported by Cageside Seats, the original plan was for Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman to meet The Miz and Asuka in the finals.

However, the plans may have changed with WrestleMania looming in the background.

In case you didn't know...

The Mixed Match Challenge teams comprising one male and one female WWE superstar, against other similar teams, all competing for a charity of their choice.

The tournament is streamed on Facebook Watch, following SmackDown Live, with Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Beth Phoenix on commentary.

The tournament has been quite an entertaining affair thus far, with the superstars seeming quite at ease in this unique environment.

The heart of the matter

It would make sense for The Miz and Asuka to be the last remaining force in the tournament, as she has not been pinned or submitted since her arrival in NXT. The same holds true for the team of Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman because Strowman wins more matches than he loses.

At this point in time, it seems like Alexa Bliss and Asuka are on a collision course for WrestleMania. Therefore, plans may have changed because of the same, and WWE may not want to give this match away so easily on Facebook Watch. For a lot of people, Charlotte Flair and Bobby Roode are yet another dominant pair.

What's next?

We'll just watch the tournament going forward and see how the bracket looks, a few weeks hereon? Could we be in for a big surprise, thanks to the Second Chance Challenge? We can only guess for now.

Author's take

The Miz and Asuka have to win the tournament, in my opinion. Asuka has never lost a match, and even if The Miz takes the pin, it still does count as a loss.

It'll be a shame if the streak ends at the Mixed Match Challenge, instead of a major WWE pay-per-view.
