From the WWE Rumor Mill: Possible reason why WWE is not interested in James Storm
What’s the story?
During the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said that there has been no talk about hiring Impact Wrestling original roster member and former World Champion, James Storm. We may have an update.
In case you didn’t know…
James Storm has made it no secret that he wants to join WWE. Storm officially parted ways with Impact Wrestling last January, after a two-year run, which before that he had briefly wrestled for WWE in NXT without a contract.
James went back to Impact to be closer to home and his newborn baby. While WWE were very interested in signing him back in 2015, it doesn't seem so much anymore. James commented on wanting to sign with WWE last month and said, "My ultimate goal is to go to WWE. The WWE has such a grip on the world, it's pretty amazing, and I believe I still have a lot to give. I'm in the best shape I've ever been. When I left Impact, I told people this isn't my last stop, it's just time for me to get on a new horse.
"People always say, 'main roster or bust type of guy,' but if you look at NXT, it's one of the hottest things going right now no matter what people say. And it's one of those things where anybody would be proud to be signed to NXT and have a good run there. I mean, it's plain and simple. They are doing as much as the people on the main roster is on the road and stuff like that right now. So, I mean, I'd definitely go and work with those guys and help them out as best I can."
The heart of the matter
Although it seems that WWE are no longer interested in James Storm, at least according to Meltzer, I think it is worth noting that Storm's booking agent, Jason Cook, has said that he has got James locked up tight with independent appearances that he can't cancel out of, until at least May.
This isn't a whole lot to go on but if WWE are aware of this, then that would perhaps prevent talks between the two sides from happening, for at least until James is free.
What’s next?
'The Cowboy' will continue to work independent dates all over the US and UK until at least May, then we may find out if WWE has any interest in him.
Author’s take
I would love to see James Storm have an official run with WWE. 'The Cowboy' is still a very talented performer who is in tremendous shape for his age. This is something that he really wants, so I can see him working really hard to obtain it.
I believe it is possible that he may talk with WWE once these independent appearances he is fully committed to, are finished up.
