From The WWE Rumor Mill: Potential future plans for Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre
What’s the story?
During the very recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, respected Professional Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that the WWE management is still pretty high on “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin, who could once again be on the verge of receiving a huge push.
In case you didn’t know…
During this week’s WWE Superstar Shake-up, former WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin was drafted to Monday Night Raw from the blue brand of Smackdown Live.
During his stint with Smackdown Live, Corbin earned himself numerous shots at the WWE Championship, most notably when he was in possession of the Money in the Bank briefcase. However, “The Lone Wolf” never actually had the pleasure of enjoying a run with the WWE Title and came up short on winning the world title on several occasions.
However, during his tenure with SD Live, Corbin did manage to capture the WWE United States Title when he defeated AJ Styles and Tye Dillinger in a triple threat match during the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.
The heart of the matter
Following Baron Corbin’s jump to Monday Night Raw during the WWE Superstar Shake-up, The Observer’s Dave Meltzer apparently noted that theoretically, the reason why WWE decided to shift Corbin to Monday Night Raw is because the management currently has some big plans for “The Lone Wolf” and those suggested plans now seem to be in motion, now that Corbin has finally signed for the red brand.
Additionally, Meltzer also claimed that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is currently looking to keep Drew McIntyre in the mid-card—at least for the time being—due to the fact that McIntyre has directly formed a partnership with Dolph Ziggler and the two men are likely to compete on the Raw tag team division.
“What’s the deal? It’s one thing I cannot figure out. [Drew McIntyre’s] younger than Corbin. Vince loves Baron Corbin — he did love McIntyre originally and then he soured on him years and years ago.
But it’s like when you put McIntyre and Corbin together it’s like one’s just boring but it seems like Corbin is the one they’re high on as a big main event singles guy. Corbin being moved over is to be a top guy and I didn’t sense putting McIntyre with Ziggler is gonna be a top guy spot.”- Meltzer noted.
What’s next?
Drew McIntyre, being a former NXT Champion, will definitely receive some sort of push I believe. Meanwhile, Baron Corbin could also very well be on the verge of receiving a solid push, but only time will tell what the future has in store for both these superstars.
Author’s Take
Personally, I think it’ll be an absolute waste if the WWE doesn’t decide to give Drew McIntyre a push and push Corbin instead. McIntyre is definitely one of the best in-ring competitors in the company today and his partnership with Ziggler is also very exciting.
