What’s the story?

Per F4WOnline, multiple sources close to Jim Johnston have confirmed his release from the WWE.

The belief is that Johnston’s contract with the promotion ran out recently, and the WWE didn’t renew his deal, despite the music composer wanting to stay on.

In case you didn’t know…

Jim Johnston has worked for the WWE since 1985; as a writer, guitarist, drummer, music composer, and the longtime head of ‘WWE Music Group’.

The musician best known for his lone wolf approach toward creating original music content for the WWE worked for the WWE in a career spanning 3 decades; before music group CFO$ took over the reigns as the head of the promotion’s music department in 2014.

The heart of the matter

Multiple professional wrestling experts proclaim that Jim Johnston wanted to keep working with the WWE, and his release was not mutual by any means.

With his WWE contract recently running its course, the promotion granted him a release instead of choosing to sign Johnston to a new deal.

The vast majority of industry insiders opine that WWE Music Group’s General Manager Neil Lawi, who had been pushing for CFO$’s John Alicastro and Michael Lauri to helm the music department of WWE, may have reportedly played a role in WWE ousting Jim Johnston after three decades of employ. However, one ought to note that the aforementioned speculation is yet to be confirmed.

What’s next?

Jim Johnston’s ouster from the WWE after several years of him working for the company has come as a shock to many in the professional wrestling community.

Furthermore, both Johnston and WWE’s silence in light of reports of his firing doing the rounds in the media has led to further convolution amongst fans regarding the entire situation.

Author’s take

Jim Johnston’s work with WWE shall never be forgotten, and regardless of what happens from this point going forward, he’ll always be viewed as a WWE and music legend.

Honestly speaking, the WWE has no shortage of musicians at hand, nor does it have any problems in drawing top-notch Hollywood stars and pop icons to its shows. Nevertheless, it’d be great to see Johnston inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in the near future.
