From the WWE rumor mill: Real reason why Neville wants to leave the WWE revealed
What's the story?
According to Mike Johnson at PWInsider, he has two different sources that have told him they believe that Neville wants to leave the WWE to follow the same path as Drew McIntyre, the current NXT Champion.
In case you didn't know...
The tail end of Drew McIntyre's first run in the WWE was going nowhere being in the joke stable 3MB, so he left the WWE in 2014. From there, he would go to several indie promotions as well as Impact Wrestling.
As Drew Galloway, he defeated Matt Hardy for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in 2016 for his first world title of his career.
Drew made his return to the WWE at NXT Takeover: Orlando this past April and captured the NXT Championship from Bobby Roode at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III in August.
The heart of the matter...
According to Mike Johnson's sources, Neville is pushing for a release to build his name elsewhere just like McIntyre did. Johnson said that New Japan Pro Wrestling would love to have him back in their company and that he would make a lot of money on the indie scene.
Johnson mentioned a few factors that have made Neville unhappy. The biggest factor being left off of the WrestleMania 33 DVD (even though he wrestled Austin Aries in the Kickoff Show); which means he wouldn't receive any royalties on the biggest selling DVD of the year for the WWE.
The same career move for McIntyre paid off very well. He worked very hard the three years away from the WWE, and the result is being the top guy in NXT, a brand that has seen tremendous growth over the past few years.
What's next?
It is unknown what is truly next for Neville, but updates are continuously coming out regarding the situation. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for any further developments on Neville.
Author's take...
Kevin Owens said it himself in a recent promo on SmackDown Live. Neville is one of the best wrestlers they have in the company. I think Neville has already done a tremendous job transforming himself as a heel since his return earlier in the year.
I'm all for him to follow the same path as McIntyre for a chance to do more in the WWE down the road. After all, time is on the 31-year-old's side!
