From the WWE rumor mill: Update on reports of Conor McGregor's WrestleMania 34 deal
What's the story?
There was a recent report carried by UK Sun stating that UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is in talks with the WWE to appear at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.
According to NoDQ.com, those reports are false and there have been no talks between the two sides.
In case you didn't know...
Conor recently fought Floyd Mayweather on August 26th in one of the most anticipated boxing matches in years.
This was McGregor's first ever sanctioned boxing match and he fared well against the undefeated Mayweather by taking him into the 10th round before losing by TKO.
The heart of the matter...
On the other hand, the WWE is planning for Ronda Rousey to take part in WrestleMania 34 this April. She is currently training with former WWE Cruiserweight and Tag Team Champion Brian Kendrick.
There are rumors there could be the MMA version of the Four Horsewomen (including Rousey and the recently signed Shayna Baszler) against WWE's version of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley.
With Rousey in the fold, they do not expect the WWE to spend even more cash to bring McGregor into the fold. The price tag to add McGregor to WrestleMania would be fairly steep, most would assume.
What's next?
There are a couple of directions that Dana White can take with Conor McGregor next. The first is to have him face the current interim UFC Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson, who was victorious at UFC 216 last weekend. The second is the third match in the series against his biggest rival Nate Diaz.
Author's take...
I'm not overly disappointed that McGregor is probably not going to be at WrestleMania 34 because I believe it will still happen down the road. McGregor is only 29 years old and has plenty of fights left in him in the world of MMA.
When he's ready to leave that sport, then I'm sure he'll give the WWE a call. I think he'd make a perfect fit in the professional wrestling world.
