From the WWE Rumor Mill: Rey Mysterio pulled from indie show scheduled for WrestleMania weekend, fuelling speculation
What's the story?
Rey Mysterio has been at the forefront of the WWE rumor mill for the last week or so thanks to a report from Justin Barasso claiming that Mysterio, and not the Undertaker, is lining up to face John Cena at WrestleMania following alleged backstage negotiations during SmackDown. Now it seems there's more fuel to the fire that is this speculation.
In case you didn't know...
John Cena has been rumoured to be finally wrestling against the Undertaker for a long time now but we've yet to see it come to fruition on television. Currently, Cena is trying to 'find' his path to 'Mania and has managed to earn himself a spot in the main event Fastlane WWE title match.
The heart of the matter
Rey Mysterio was scheduled to appear at a CRASH show on 6 April, and was featured heavily on the poster for the show. Mysterio was on the poster, but if you look now he isn't anywhere to be seen, possibly indicating he's been pulled from the show.
Previously we've seen Superstars pulled from independent shows like EC3 and Pete Dunne over the Royal Rumble weekend. In EC3's case it was advertised as 'other commitments' and in Dunne's it was advertised as WWE commitments. Could this be the case for Mysterio at WrestleMania?
Mysterio is still advertised for the 17 March CRASH show.
What's next?
If we assume this is happening because Mysterio is going to appear at WrestleMania I sincerely hope it isn't in a match with John Cena. However, if that's the cost of seeing both men at the show then I'll take it.
Author's take
Whatever all of this means and regardless of how much of this is actually true, I think we can all be safe in assuming that the WWE is extremely interested in getting Rey in for WrestleMania, and that seems to be the same for Rey. So fingers crossed it happens.
