From the WWE Rumor Mill: Ronda Rousey's Royal Rumble status not looking good
What's the story?
Ronda Rousey and WWE seem destined to be together but it might take a bit more planning than initially thought. When the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble was announced, many people assumed Rousey would be a part of the monumental match and some even pegged her to win it.
But it turns out her film commitments could get in the way of a big moment with WWE in Philadelphia. Pro Wrestling Sheet has new information on a film project Rousey has in the pipeline and the shooting schedule could mean no Royal Rumble would be possible for her because she'll be shooting the film in Bogota, Colombia.
In case you didn't know...
Ronda Rousey is not only an MMA fighter and former Olympian but also has a budding film career as well. She had roles in the Expendables 3, Entourage, and Furious 7.
The heart of the matter
Ronda Rousey has a role in the upcoming Mark Wahlberg film called Mile 22, which is scheduled to start shooting after the holidays are over, in Bogota, Colombia. Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that while there could be a chance for a deal to be worked out, the dotted line on a contract would need to be signed if Ronda Rousey is expected in Philly for the Royal Rumble.
WWE has expressed interest to Rousey's camp, and they're reportedly said that they would like to use her in the future, but apparently that is the extent of talks at this point. Although there is always the possibility for a big surprise with things being finalised at the last minute, it's not likely at this point.
A crew member of the upcoming Wahlberg film posted the following to Instagram further confirming the plans to shoot in Bogota.
What's next?
It is certainly a "wait and see" kind of situation at this point, but pro wrestling fans are used to that at this point. If Rousey does show up at the Royal Rumble, then things will need to be ironed out beforehand because it looks like nothing has been set in stone at this point.
Author's take
Ronda Rousey could easily jump on a WWE sponsored jet and fly to Philadelphia on the morning of January 28 and hang out in a shrouded vehicle until it is her time to do the show. After all, WWE has pulled off that kind of surprise in the past. Hopefully, however, WWE decides to use Rousey and will not waste the incredible drawing power her name still holds.
