From the WWE Rumor Mill: Styles vs. Shinsuke rematch planned with huge stipulation?
What's the story?
At Backlash, we saw that neither AJ Styles not Shinsuke Nakamura were able to beat the referee's 10 count, causing a double count-out during their match. It is clear that their rivalry is far from over, and if rumors are to be believed, there is a lot more coming our way soon!
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are talks of a Last Man Standing match between the two men. We thank Cageside Seats for the latest update.
In case you didn't know...
AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura put on a dream match in Japan, and WWE wanted them to recreate the magic at WrestleMania 34. Following a match that Styles won clean, Nakamura went heel and delivered a low blow to his opponent.
Since then, Nakamura has terrorized Styles with a barrage of low blows. Their last two outings haven't really ended clean and it is clear that their feud is far from done, right now.
The heart of the matter
A Last Man Standing match may make sense because neither man was able to beat the ten count at their last outing. Both men are incredible workers and can put on a really good match with a great story if the opportunity to do so presented itself before them.
For a lot of fans, the Styles vs. Nakamura feud has been a tad underwhelming. If the two men put on this Last Man Standing Match and actually manage to deliver, it may be a Match of the Year contender.
What's next?
The coming weeks should show us the roadmap for the WWE Championship picture following Backlash. Will Samoa Joe also involve himself in the title picture? He did promise to do so right before Backlash took place!
Author's take
I definitely want to see this match. I also want to see these two men go last at a WWE pay-per-view.
Let them tear the house down with a barrage of exemplary and fantastic display of moves.
