From the WWE Rumor Mill: Tamina injury update
What’s the story?
On a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was revealed that Tamina Snuka indeed underwent surgery immediately following the Royal Rumble PPV (January 31st).
Additionally, key insider details on how Tamina worked through her injury have also been noted.
In case you didn’t know…
Tamina Snuka has performed for the WWE over the past several years and is considered to be one of the most consistent workers in the WWE Women’s Division.
However, Tamina has suffered several injury issues over the past few years—with her torn rotator cuff being the latest in the line of said injuries.
The heart of the matter
It was previously asserted that Tamina Snuka underwent surgery to repair her torn rotator cuff a couple of days after the Royal Rumble PPV, however, The Observer notes that Tamina, in fact, went under the knife on the very same night (January 31st), following her appearance in the Women’s Royal Rumble Match.
Furthermore, Tamina’s last match before her 2-minute appearance at the Royal Rumble took place on January 21st in Greeneville, North Carolina, and experts believe that she either sustained the injury during the January 21st matchup or may have been diagnosed with the injury before the match and was working through it.
Besides, it has also been emphasized that there was the talk of Tamina being left out of the Women’s Royal Rumble Match and she was indeed removed from the promotional material for the event. Regardless, while Tamina did compete in the matchup, she didn’t perform in any storyline-closing angles on WWE’s TV programming owing to the injury.
Intriguingly, given the historic significance of the inaugural Women's Royal Rumble Match, Tamina reportedly decided to wait until after the 'Rumble, to undergo surgery.
What’s next?
The Observer reports that Tamina Snuka is expected to make her in-ring WWE return no sooner than September-November of this year.
Tamina remains listed as a SmackDown Live Superstar and is expected to resume her role on the blue brand upon her return.
Author’s take
Tamina Snuka is perhaps one of the more underappreciated talents in the business.
Tamina is strength and grittiness personified, and surely deserves to be accorded a shot at a Women’s title in the WWE in the near future.
Sportskeeda wishes Tamina Snuka a safe & speedy recovery.
