From the WWE Rumor Mill: Update on Brock Lesnar's injury after match against AJ Styles
What's the story?
Dave Meltzer has reported on a backstage note regarding Brock Lesnar on the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. On the show, Meltzer talked about Lesnar selling the leg injury after his win against AJ Styles at Survivor Series.
In case you didn't know...
Brock Lesnar is the fourth WWE Universal Champion in history after he defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 33. His current title reign has reached over 230 days - the longest reign in the title's short history.
The heart of the matter
Lesnar was selling his leg injury after defeating AJ Styles in an amazing match. AJ rammed Lesnar's knee into the steel steps and applied the Calf Crusher in the middle of the ring for a lengthy period.
Meltzer states that Lesnar just wanted people to think that AJ Styles really injured him, but it was just a great sell job by The Beast. Lesnar was not actually hurt during the match.
Lesnar was victorious after a great 15-minute match (one of the longest for Lesnar in the past few years) after he caught Styles who was trying to connect on a second Phenomenal Forearm but Lesnar delivered an F5.
What's next?
It is unknown what's next for Lesnar. He could defend his WWE Universal Championship next at the Royal Rumble, or he may not defend it until WrestleMania.
As for AJ Styles, he'll unfortunately have to defend his WWE Championship on this Tuesday's SmackDown Live as Jinder Mahal opportunistically enabled his rematch clause just two days after the battle with Lesnar.
Author's take
Lesnar definitely did an amazing job in the match, selling the offence that AJ Styles was delivering. It was definitely the match of Survivor Series. I absolutely loved it.
I worried that there was going to either be interference from Jinder or Lesnar would destroy AJ quickly, but I thought the match played out as perfect as it could in a clean finish.
Lesnar dominated for the first few minutes, and the longer AJ survived, the better the chance he would have an opening to get his offence in, and that is exactly how the match happened.
