From the WWE Rumor Mill: Update on Johny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa
What's the Story?
Dave Meltzer has reported that the much-anticipated match between Tommaso Ciampa and Johny Gargano is definitely going to happen at WWE NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.
In case you didn't know...
Gargano and Ciampa have been involved in a blood feud ever since The Psycho Killer brutally attacked Johny Wrestling after they lost their NXT Tag Team Championships ladder match to The Author's of Pain at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.
The feud could not move forward at the time as Ciampa was out due to injury. Ciampa returned to NXT at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia and attacked Gargano after he failed to win the NXT Championship in his match with Andrade Almas.
Gargano is not officially a part of NXT anymore as he lost another match against Andrade Almas where he would have to leave NXT if he lost. This gave rise to speculation as to whether or not a match between the former Tag Team Champions would take place at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.
The heart of the matter
Johny Gargano is easily one of the most over babyfaces in all of WWE whereas Ciampa is the most hated heels in the company today.
Although it was speculated that match between the two will take place at New Orleans, it has still not been added to the official match owing to Gargano not being a part of the NXT roster.
Dave Meltzer, however, has recently reported that the match will most certainly take place at the event. There are high chances that it will be a non-sanctioned match and that Gargano will join the main roster soon after.
What's next?
NXT TakeOver: New Orleans will be taking place on 7th April, a night before Wrestlemania 34.
Author's take
This has been one of the best feuds of the year and I can not wait to see it culminate at the Wrestlemania weekend. These two will no doubt produce a match of the year candidate.
