From the WWE Rumor Mill: US Championship to change hands at Clash of Champions

Baron Corbin

What's the story?

Smackdown-exclusive PPV- Clash of Champions- will be taking place on 17 December 2017 at TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts.

As per the rumor roundup on Cageside seats, no title change may be taking place at the event; however, if there was to be a title witch it would be for the US Championship.

In case you didn't know...

Clash of Champions will be the last WWE special of the year and boasts of featuring all SmackDown titles being defended at the event.

The PPV will also see Kevin Owens and Sami Zyan go against Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura, with Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon acting as special guest referees.

The match for the US Championship will see Baron Corbin defend his title against Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler in a triple threat match.

Baron Corbin won the US Championship at the Hell in a Cell PPV by defeating AJ Styles and Tye Dillinger.

The heart of the mater

Baron Corbin has had an unimpressive run with US Championship as of now, feuding with the likes of Tye Dillinger and Sin Cara; The Lonewolf has failed to make an impact with the oppurtunity given to him, so it makes sense to have the championship change hands.

Dolph Ziggler has been languishing in the mid-card, acting more as a 'gatekeeper' facing call-ups from NXT time and again. It would be a good idea to have him win the Championship and give his character some direction in the WWE.

Bobby Roode would also be a good option to win the Championship as the former NXT Champion will look to continue his dominating ways on Smackdown as well.

What's next?

The Clash of Champions event this Sunday will also see AJ Styles defend his WWE TItle against Jinder Mahal, Charlotte will take on Natalya and a fatal 4-way for the Tag team Titles will also take place.

As per the reports, it doesn't look like any of the titles will be changing hands in the above-mentioned matches.

Author's take

I feel Baron Corbin has failed to deliver at any level in the WWE and having him win the US Championship in the first place was a mistake itself; so I'm happy at the prospect of Roode or Ziggler becoming the new US Champion this Sunday.
