From the WWE Rumor Mill: Vince McMahon could be bringing back the XFL
What's the story?
Vince McMahon's failed XFL experiment in 2001 is still remembered today for many reasons. But it turns out this might be something McMahon hasn't forgotten about either because new reports suggest the WWE Chairman Of The Board could be opening himself up into taking another plunge into the deep waters of professional football.
In case you didn't know...
The first incarnation of the XFL was plagued by poor decisions and bad luck. But Vince McMahon is always looking for new ways to expand his empire and it looks like he could be getting back into football soon enough.
The heart of the matter
Vince McMahon has apparently started a new company called Alpha Entertainment. This new company is going to be in the sports entertainment business as well, but it doesn't sound like they'll be in the pro wrestling space at all.
When reached for comment, WWE spokespeople could only answer in a very generic way at the moment, but it certainly sounds like a bigger announcement is coming about this one.
When reached for comment about this announcement, WWE spokespeople responded with the following:
"Vince McMahon has established and is personally funding a separate entity from WWE, Alpha Entertainment, to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football. Mr. McMahon has nothing further to announce at this time."
What's next?
Vince McMahon might announce something big very soon. The idea is that the XFL could be ready to announce by January 25th, 2018 which would be an incredible turnaround if he didn't already have people on the job.
Author's take
I'll never forget watching the first-ever XFL football game because it was also my last one to date. But Vince McMahon isn't a man to ever say die and he'll keep going back to an idea if he thinks there's gain to be had.
Perhaps he's under the impression with the NFL under such scrutiny as of late, another go at the top competition for the status quo might be in order once more?
