From the WWE Rumor Mill: Backstage officials reportedly happy with the brand split
What’s the story?
WWE officially split the roster between Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live back in July 2016 and according to reports from IWNerd.com, Vince McMahon and the other backstage WWE officials are happy with the brand extension so far. In fact, there are reported talks that WWE will be making changes to further differentiate the 2 brands.
In case you didn’t know...
The brand extension took place a year after Shane McMahon returned from a 6-year hiatus from the WWE. Shane was appointed as the commissioner of SmackDown LIVE while Stephanie assumed the same position on the Raw side of things.
The heart of the matter
It has been over a year since the WWE brand extension, and it appears that Vince McMahon and the other WWE backstage officials are happy with the split so far. While SmackDown LIVE, in particular, has produced some compelling television after the brand split, television ratings appear to be sagging after WrestleMania. There is a possibility that the company could take drastic measures to stem the tide.

What’s next?
If things work out the way Vince McMahon wants them to, it will be interesting to see how the promotion attempts to further differentiate both brands. They could add new titles or maybe even change the themes of both brands.
Author’s take
It is safe to say that the brand split has led to an increase in the quality of WWE programming. The competition between both brands has the potential to create magic, so there is no question that this was a wise move by the company.
