From the WWE Rumor Mill: WWE drops SmackDown Live storyline, ahead of WrestleMania 34

Some may even call this a big relief

What's the story?

It's time to rejoice, WWE Universe. According to the Wrestling Observer, and thereafter reported by Wrestlingnews.co, the Top 10 list is no more!

The idea was apparently dropped by WWE ahead of WrestleMania 34. While the idea was initiated with the utmost gusto, it was never made clear where the idea was finally headed.

In case you didn't know...

The SmackDown Top 10 List was introduced as a storyline device where those in the SmackDown Live locker room vote for one another, to determine who the top guy in the roster is.

It was used to further a feud between Jinder Mahal, Bobby Roode and Randy Orton. Judging by the reaction of those online, the WWE Universe did not seem too thrilled with the list.

It stemmed from the fact that even though Randy Orton was an industry legend, he was ranked lower down the list than Bobby Roode, the new guy.

The heart of the matter

From the time it was introduced, the Top 10 List did not set the world on fire at all. If anything, it was met with much criticism from the WWE Universe and there's no surprise that it was dropped.

We suppose the initial idea was to have multiple storylines emerge across the board, from the Top 10 List. However, the idea was uninspired and unrealistic, and therefore it was shelved in almost no time at all.

What's next?

Bobby Roode, Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal are still all part of the US Championship storyline. Rusev too has been inserted into the mix. These men will have a massive showdown at WrestleMania 34.

Author's take

I've always hated the Top 10 list. In fact, if you read my 'Best and Worst' countdowns at all, you know I've always panned it.

I'm glad to see it gone for good.
