From The WWE Rumor Mill: WWE is reportedly trying to sign two Mexican superstars
What’s the story?
In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio, respected professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that the WWE is currently trying to recruit several Mexican wrestlers and offer them a contract with the company’s developmental brand, better known as NXT.
In case you didn’t know…
Over the course of the past few decades, we have witnessed several emerging top superstars from Mexico compete in a WWE ring. The likes of former World Champions such as Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, and the late great Eddie Guerrero will all go down as some of the most notable Mexican names to ever step foot into the WWE.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, the current WWE roster also consists of some of the most high flying Mexican luchadors in the form of Kalisto, Sin Cara, Gran Metalik, and Lince Dorado, who have broken all sorts of barriers for Mexican wrestlers by making it to the world’s biggest wrestling promotion and on top of that, current NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas has also turned out to be one of the most promising Mexican superstars of all time, to step into the WWE.
The heart of the matter
In the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that former Lucha Libre AAA superstar and Impact Wrestling’s Garza Jr. along with his former Crash Lucha Libre tag team partner Ultimo Ninja are both currently undergoing medical testing in the WWE.
According to Meltzer, the current belief is that if the former Crash Tag Team Champions pass their medicals then they will evidently be offered with WWE contracts and the two men will be sent to the company’s developmental territory of NXT.
What’s next?
As noted, the WWE has been recently seeking more Spanish and Mexican talent and following a recent set of rumors, the company has seemingly also been in talks with former World Champions Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio—who last competed at the 2018 Royal Rumble match.
However, as of right now, it seems like Del Rio will eventually sign a new contract with Impact Wrestling, but Rey Mysterio could potentially be open to a return to the WWE, sometime in the near future.
Author’s Take
Both Garza Jr. and Ultimo Ninja are certainly going to be a huge addition to the NXT roster, the duo has been highly successful during their run together as a tag team and personally, I believe that offering them an NXT contract will surely be a positive move.
