From the WWE Rumor Mill: WWE planning Team AJ Styles vs. Team Finn Bálor for Survivor Series?
What's the story?
In the Bryan and Vinny Show's review of WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs, Bryan Alvarez speculated that WWE might be planning a Team AJ Styles vs. Team Finn Bálor match for Survivor Series 2017.
In case you didn't know...
WWE's plans were thrown into disarray when a number of high-profile performers were forced to miss the TLC pay-per-view with an unidentified viral infection, believed to be mumps or viral meningitis.
Finn Bálor was scheduled to take on Bray Wyatt, or what may have been Bray in drag as Sister Abigail, but The Eater of Worlds was replaced two days prior to the event by SmackDown Live superstar, AJ Styles.
The heart of the matter
'The Demon' managed to prevail over 'The Phenomenal One' at TLC but respected journalist Bryan Alvarez is speculating that the battle wasn't quite as random as many were led to believe. Alvarez has prognosticated that a Styles/Bálor match may well have been on the cards for Survivor Series, and the rivalry was merely brought forward a month.
That Survivor Series match may not be a singles one, however. Instead, the two former Bullet Club leaders will lead teams in a traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Elimination Match, another of the cross-brand bouts expected for the show.
This is all speculation at this point, but the build towards the last of 2017's 'Big Four' events is expected to begin in earnest on tonight's episode of RAW. Will Team AJ vs. Team Finn be on the November 19 card?
What's next?
The likelihood of an elimination match between the two depends on the health of Bray Wyatt moving forward. WWE was on the verge of unveiling the Sister Abigail character, taking Wyatt to a precipice that it may be difficult to reverse from.
If Team AJ vs. Team Finn does indeed happen, it will be interesting to see who makes the teams. It is unthinkable that the two can do battle without Anderson and Gallows being involved somehow.
Author's take
Team AJ vs. Team Finn sounds like it could be a whole lot of fun if it does indeed come to pass. Anderson and Gallows should definitely be a part of Bálor's squad, but the remaining six individuals in the match are up for debate.
A number of talented performers are looking for direction ahead of Survivor Series, including Jason Jordan, Wyatt, Rusev and others. Will they find their way into this hypothetical elimination match?
