What’s the story?

According to the reports in The UK Sun, WWE is planning the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match; set to take place early next year.

In reference to the same, it’s being noted that the WWE will officially announce the historic matchup in January 2018. Besides, a possible tweak in the rule-set as compared to the Men’s Royal Rumble match was also revealed.

In case you didn’t know…

The WWE held its first ever Royal Rumble in 1988, and the gimmick matchup has mainly featured male competitors.

However, a few female Superstars namely Beth Phoenix, Chyna and Kharma (TNA’s Awesome Kong) have participated in the Men’s Royal Rumble.

The heart of the matter

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter had reported earlier this year that the WWE is indeed planning to go forward with a Women’s Royal Rumble match at the ‘Big 4’ PPV event which goes down in January of next year.

However, talk of the matchup was shot down by industry experts over the past few days. Nevertheless, the Women’s Royal Rumble match seems to have now gained renewed traction; with Sun Sports revealing that the recent additions of female talent to the WWE’s main roster is owing to the WWE’s plans of prepping for a Women’s ‘Rumble match.

If one is to believe the rumblings in the professional wrestling community, the Women’s Royal Rumble match may not have the rule that sees a new entrant coming into the ring after every allotted time interval.

What’s next?

The WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV goes down at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28th.

Author’s take

Should the WWE go forward with its plans of having a Women’s Royal Rumble matchup, it’ll most definitely send a yet another huge message to the entire world regarding the promotion’s undying support for Women’s Pro-Wrestling.

Honestly speaking, the wonderful female Superstars of the WWE deserve it, and the promotion shouldn’t hesitate one bit in giving them the opportunity to showcase their immaculate skills at the ‘Rumble.
