From the WWE Rumor Mill: WWE to focus on Ronda Rousey as a solo star
What's the story?
As per Cageside Seats, WWE is planning to push UFC fighter Ronda Rousey as a solo performer.
In case you didn't know...
Back in 2014, Rousey and the Four Horsewomen were VIP guests at WWE's annual SummerSlam PPV. Later that night, during an interview with WWE.com, Rousey was asked whether she, like Brock Lesnar, would like to cross over to pro-wrestling from MMA, to which Rousey replied: "You never know."
A year later at WrestleMania 31, Rousey alongside The Rock, took part in a brief segment against authority figures Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, with many fans believing it to be a build-up for a mixed tag match at next years 'Mania. However, in the end, nothing came of this segment.
Two years later during WWE's inaugural Mae Young Classic Tournament, WWE teased the idea of a match between the Four Horsewomen of WWE versus the Four Horsewomen of MMA, when Rousey, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke faced-off against Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Bayley during Shayna Baszler's match at the tournament.
The heart of the matter
According to the report from Cageside Seats, WWE's still interested in pursuing a Four Horsewomen feud, but it won't be happening at this year's Survivor Series PPV.
The report also states that the company may have cooled on the idea altogether, instead focusing on building Rousey as a solo superstar.
What's next?
After their initial face-off at the MYC, WWE.com posted a poll asking fans, who would they like to see Ronda face in her debut. The options included Charlotte, Stephanie McMahon, Bayley, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Lana, Naomi, Natalya, Becky Lynch, and Alexa Bliss.
Currently, Charlotte's leading the poll with 30% votes, while Stephanie McMahon's right behind her with 29% of the votes. Thus, this may indicate that WWE may want to focus more on Rousey than the other three of the Four Horsewomen.
On August 8th, a report from Fightful.com revealed, that Rousey had started training in pro-wrestling at 205 LIVE Superstar, The Brian Kendrick's wrestling school.
Author's Take
It's quite obvious that Rousey's celebrity status outstrips that of her teammates and thus due to this fact, the WWE may lean more towards pushing Rousey as a solo superstar.
