From the WWE rumor mill: WWE wants this popular Superstar to end Asuka's streak in 2018

Asuka,
The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka.

What's the story?

Ronda Rousey is continuing to make headlines after making her WWE debut at the Royal Rumble in January, and while a lot of news has to do with Superstars taking shots at her backstage, there has also been news about WWE's plan for her as well! Dave Meltzer sounded off on this subject on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Of course, it is being reported that the plan for WrestleMania 34 is for Rousey to be involved in a tag team match against The Authority, but there is now speculation that she will be moving on to much bigger things afterwards.

In fact, WWE could be prepping her for one of the most controversial moments in WWE history.

In case you didn't know...

WWE already planted the seeds for Asuka to take on Ronda Rousey when The Empress of Tomorrow refused to shake Rousey's hand at the close of the Royal Rumble pay per view and it looks like they are going to act on it after WrestleMania season is over. Unfortunately for Asuka, that matchup could mean the end of her undefeated streak in WWE.

With that being said, the reason that WWE is waiting until after WrestleMania 34 is due to wanting Asuka to win the Women's Championship first and then lose it to Rousey later in the year. Asuka could also lose her undefeated streak in the process, which could be how WWE eventually turns Rousey into the company's biggest heels.

The heart of the matter

In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer is claiming that WWE is setting up Ronda Rousey to eventually end Asuka's undefeated streak, but it will supposedly not happen until later in the year. That means Rousey will most likely be put in a tag team match against The Authority, leaving Asuka to fight for the title.

What's next?

It is also being reported by Meltzer that Asuka's title decision will be delayed until after the Elimination Chamber pay per view. Interestingly enough, it is being said that Asuka would be competing against Charlotte Flair for the title.

Author's take

WWE is treading through murky water by wanting to end Asuka's streak after only a year on the main roster and it honestly might not last that long if the company has their way.

What is even worse is that WWE wants to give something as special as Asuka's streak to someone who doesn't even need it to succeed in the company. Why WWE couldn't give another Superstar like Nia Jax, Carmella, Naomi, Ruby Riott or Sonya Deville the chance to end the streak is anyone's guess, but it just looks ridiculous on WWE's part here.
