What's the story?

John Cena is currently not present in regular WWE programming, but he has entered himself in the Men's Royal Rumble match, set to take place in the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

There has also been a rumour that Cena may appear on the 25th Anniversary Show of Raw.

Cageside Seats have recently speculated that Cena may be in a feud with Samoa Joe post-Royal Rumble, as most of his bookings have him in tag team matches facing Joe.

In case you didn't know...

Recent weeks have seen Samoa Joe involved in a feud with the Intercontinental Champion, Roman Reigns. Despite facing him in a couple of title matches recently, Joe was unable to win the title itself. The first match saw Joe win by Disqualification when Reigns lost his temper and shoved the referee. Roman won the second match as well, effectively taking revenge on Joe for injuring Roman's Shield-mate, Dean Ambrose.

The heart of the matter

According to Cageside Seats, Cena is set to take on Joe after the Royal Rumble in a feud. Most of Cena's booking post-Rumble have him facing Joe in tag matches, and this is likely something which will be built up at the Rumble.

Cena and Joe have both announced their participation in the Men's Royal Rumble. On this week's Raw, in a post-match interview, Joe was asked how he felt he would match up with the other stars in the Rumble.

When Cena's name was mentioned along with the names of other stars in the Rumble, Joe seemed to hold a personal grudge against him. Joe said that he would 'never forget' Cena, and Cena was the first star he would eliminate in the Rumble match.

Cageside Seats also mentioned that Wrestling Observer Radio speculated that Cena and Joe could be a filler feud before Cena faced The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. The Undertaker-Cena match was expected to be set up on Raw's 25th Anniversary Show, where the Deadman will be present.

What's next?

The 25th Anniversary of Monday Night RAW will air live from both the Manhattan and Barclays Center on January 22, while the Rumble is set to take place on January 28th in the Wells Fargo Center.

Author's take

Cena and Joe facing each other would make a terrific feud, given the right booking. Both wrestlers have a similar wrestling style and their combined experience in the ring could see a couple of well-worked matches in future.
