Will Mysterio sign with WWE?

What's the story?

Ever since he showed up at Number 27 at the Royal Rumble, the WWE Universe wondered about Rey Mysterio's WWE return. There were even rumours about him being backstage, that were shot down.

According to Dave Meltzer, as reported by Cageside Seats, Mysterio and Triple H are scheduled to meet very soon indeed. A deal will be made based on whether he can work a part-time schedule.

In case you didn't know...

Rey Mysterio is perhaps the most popular luchador in the history of sports entertainment. With his acrobatic high flying style, he captured the imagination of fans both in WCW's Cruiserweight Division and later, even in WWE.

From the World Heavyweight Championship to the Intercontinental Championship to the Tag Team Championship, Mysterio has done it all in a career that has spanned over two decades. He even shocked the world and won the Royal Rumble match in 2006.

The heart of the matter

There have been many rumours about Mysterio that are doing the rounds, at this point in time. Therefore, treat this bit of news as nothing more than a rumour. The Wrestling Observer believes that Mysterio is due to meet with Triple H about a future WWE run. When? Very soon indeed.

There have been many who've gone on record to say that Mysterio will never return on a full-time basis. Though he looked as buff and fit as ever during his Royal Rumble appearance, he's been taking bumps for two decades at this point. Therefore, if the two parties can arrive at some kind of consensus with regard to Mysterio's schedule, a deal will be made.

What's next?

We'll keep you posted about any developments with regard to Rey Mysterio's WWE future, whether positive or negative. Mysterio has maintained that he wants to face Styles and Balor in WWE. Judging from the reaction of the fans at the Royal Rumble, we know they want to see him as well.

Author's take

Mysterio can be an invaluable addition to the WWE roster, both as a Cruiserweight and a heavyweight. I definitely would like to see him have a run with the current crop of talent.

Imagine how cool he could be, tearing it up with the new generation.
