From the WWE Rumour Mill: Huge Wrestlemania match planned for Kurt Angle and Triple H
What's the story?
Kurt Angle and Triple H are two of wrestling's longest-serving Superstars and both undeniable legends of sports entertainment. If either of these two men steps foot inside a ring, the WWE Universe gets excited. That's clearly why, as Cageside Seats reports, the WWE has huge plans for both of these men for the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania.
In case you didn't know...
Both Kurt Angle and Triple H had been on a hiatus from the ring until Raw's TLC 2017 pay-per-view, where the two wrestling stalwarts were forced to step up when several top Raw Superstars couldn't compete due to a viral illness.
Kurt Angle replaced Roman Reigns in the main event of TLC 2017, making his in-ring return during the huge 5 vs 3 Tables, Ladders and Chairs match in a winning effort. Shortly after TLC, Stephanie McMahon returned to Monday Night RAW and made Angle the captain of the RAW Survivor Series team and told him he'd be fired if he lost.
Triple H didn't return to the ring on television but flew out to Chile to entertain fans at a house show following Kevin Owens dropping out for family reasons, and AJ Styles being pulled from the show to replace Bray Wyatt against Finn Balor at TLC 2017. Triple H has since been announced for several UK tour dates.
The heart of the matter
Cageside Seats thinks that the reason why both men are upping their activity inside a ring, and why Stephanie McMahon issued the ultimatum to Kurt Angle about winning at Survivor Series is because Triple H and Kurt Angle are on a collision course for Wrestlemania.
Triple H vs. Kurt Angle could be the direction for WrestleMania 34, and Stephanie McMahon's return and demand for Survivor Series the start of it.
Obviously, this is all entirely speculative at this point, but Survivor Series definitely seems to be building towards Kurt Angle vs the McMahons, and the next logical step up from that is Triple H.
What's next?
Kurt Angle is in the midst of choosing his Survivor Series team to face SmackDown at the Survivor Series pay-per-view, having only announced Braun Strowman so far. Rumours suggest that Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns will be added in the coming weeks.
Kurt Angle's opponent, Shane McMahon, who announced himself as captain of the SmackDown LIVE team this week, almost has a full team with Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton joining. AJ Styles and Rusev will compete next week for the last spot.
Author's take
I can understand this decision from a booking point of view, and it would be a big marquee match for the event, but does anyone really want to see Kurt Angle vs Triple H at Wrestlemania?
Of course, this could all be wrong, as people thought the Kurt Angle mystery text storyline was leading to a match between the two and instead we got Jason Jordan as Angle's.
