From the WWE Rumor Mill: John Cena set to star as Duke Nukem and blow up aliens
What's the story?
WWE Superstar John Cena seems to be making a big mark in Hollywood. Following in the footsteps of Dwane 'The Rock' Johnson, Cena has come a long way from the time he starred in "The Marine".
Now the stage seems set for John to have his next big project outside WWE, and it will be in an action movie.
Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that the wrestler-turned-actor is involved in negotiations to star as Duke Nukem, the titular video game hero, in the big screen adaptation of the popular franchise.
In case you didn't know...
Cena has been involved in projects in Hollywood recently, with Ferdinand and Daddy's Home 2 coming out in 2017 while his role in WWE shifted to a more part-time basis. He is set to be in the Michael Bay's Bumblebee movie, a spinoff from the Transformers series.
The Nukem video games follow the protagonist Duke Nukem as he fights aliens in his quest to protect Mother Earth from the Extra-Terrestrial threats. The project was set up at Dimension Films, but when the rights lapsed, Paramount was quick to pick it up.
The heart of the matter
Cena is in negotiations to star as Duke Nukem, in the Platinum Dunes production. For the moment no director is set, but it is only a matter of time as soon as Paramount find a writer to develop the script for the movie.
Cena has acted in previous Paramount Pictures and was part of the Daddy's Home 2 film that was commercially very successful.
Platinum Dunes is a company run by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and was the company behind the Purge action franchise and produced the Ninja Turtles picture in a previous relationship with Paramount.
What's next?
An official announcement has not been made by Paramount Pictures yet, but it is only a matter of time. Fans may Cena taking things to the Stratosphere and beyond in his quest to blow up aliens.

Cena has become one of the rising stars in Hollywood and has devoted more and more of his time there to develop as a star. While Dave Bautista has found more success, Cena has finally shifted to a part-time role in WWE and may become a bigger star in the coming days.
