From the WWE Rumor mill: Kevin Owens' Wrestlemania match decided?
What's the story?
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have been involved together as a team for some time now, ever since Sami Zayn helped Kevin Owens, during the latter's bout against Shane McMahon at Hell in a Cell.
On this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer, (H/T Ringside News) talked about the possibility of a match between the two friends at Wrestlemania 34.
In case you didn't know...
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens were long-time friends before they came to WWE. Ever since they both came to NXT, the two started a feud between them. They continued their rivalry after being called up to the main roster and it looked like the friendship between the two had ceased to exist. However, during Kevin Owens' bout with Shane McMahon at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, Sami Zayn was in a position to pull Owens out of the way of Shane's dive from the top of the Cell. He did this, rekindling his friendship with Owens, and the duo continued to be thorns on the side of the SmackDown Live Commissioner. With Daniel Bryans apparently supporting them, Shane was not able to fire them, and they went on to face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship.
After being unsuccessful, discord apparently appeared between the two in recent weeks, as they both chased WWE Title. On this week's episode of SmackDown Live, Sami seemingly reconciled with Owens, saying he would lie down for him to win the title at the Fastlane pay-per-view.
The heart of the matter
On this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer talked about the possibility of a feud between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for Wrestlemania. He stated that he believed there would be a feud between the two and that it would be built up following Fastlane.
He went on to say, that the split would likely appear during the pair's WWE Championship Fatal Fiveway Match at the Fastlane pay-per-view.
"Obviously if they are going to do something they will do the big tease on March 11th. They aren’t going to be going at each other or splitting up before March 11th, I don’t think.”
He stated that there was little chance of Owens and Zayn splitting before the pay-per-view, and if it did happen it would have to be during or after the Championship Match.
What's next?
The Fastlane pay-per-view is set to take place on the 11th of March and will see AJ Styles defend his WWE Championship in a Fatal Fiveway match, against Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler.
Author's take
Owens and Zayn's rivalries have always been intriguing, and the two have real chemistry with each other. If the two do face each other at Wrestlemania 34, it is sure to be an excellent performance.
