From the WWE rumour mill: Massive NXT call up nixed because of injury?
What's the story?
Former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre's story is one that is equally inspiring and promising. He did not fare well in his first run, but went to the independent circuit and made quite a name for himself.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, McIntyre was due for a call-up to the main roster soon. Unfortunately, he was injured at NXT Takeover: WarGames and his much-awaited call-up will have to be delayed.
In case you didn't know...
Drew McIntyre has all the tools that it takes to be a major player in WWE. He has the look, the promo ability and certainly, the wrestling skills.
McIntyre lost the NXT Championship that he captured from Bobby Roode to Andrade 'Cien' Almas at NXT Takeover: WarGames. Wrestling Observer speculates that this was to call him up to either RAW or SmackDown Live, soon.
The heart of the matter
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter speculates that it seemed as if McIntyre dropping the championship was an indication that he will be moved up to the main roster very soon indeed.
In his place, Adam Cole from the Undisputed ERA, Aleister Black and Killian Dain from SAnitY would be groomed to take up the top spot.
The report goes on to mention that while there's a contractual rematch in such cases, each case is generally different.
As we write this, we do not know what the plans for McIntyre are, once he returns from injury, in the future.
What's next?
Andrade 'Cien' Almas is the man carrying NXT on his able shoulders, alongside his business associate, Zelina Vega.
We wonder who his next opponent will be, considering McIntyre is out of the current mix.
As for McIntyre himself, we wish him a speedy recovery and are sure that he'll be a top player whenever he returns from injury.
Author's take
Drew McIntyre is the blueprint of everything WWE wants in its 'top babyface'. I'm quite certain he'll be the face of the company someday. We'll just have to wait for that day to come about soon.
