From the WWE Rumour Mill: Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt to face each other in a gimmick match
What's the story?
Matt Hardy recently went back to the 'Woken' gimmick that had drawn a lot of attention during his time at Impact Wrestling. WWE aired a vignette of Matt Hardy in his broken state last week, addressing Bray Wyatt which garnered over two million views on Youtube, and got the wrestling community buzzing.
Cageside Seats speculated that WWE is currently considering bringing back the Wyatt Compound for a possible Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy gimmick match.
In case you didn't know...
Back in 2016, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy innovated wrestling when they introduced a whole new concept in Impact Wrestling. Matt adopted a 'Broken' persona after a particularly brutal match with his brother Jeff. He changed his mannerisms from his usual character and started to play the piano, changed his style of speech, and portrayed a seemingly deranged character.
The Broken character he portrayed attracted worldwide attention, and soon he was signed by WWE along with his brother. After a lengthy legal battle with Impact regarding the right to the character, Matt Hardy finally won back the right to the gimmick.
After he lost a match against Bray Wyatt on Raw, he teased the audience with a glimpse of the Broken Gimmick. He sat in the corner of the wrestling ring and started delete chants, which the crowd joined in with enthusiasm.
The heart of the matter
Matt went back to his 'Broken Gimmick' completely in a vignette and claimed to 'Woken' when he sentenced Bray Wyatt to 'Deletion'.
Right after Matt and Jeff had a match in the Hardy Compound on Impact Wrestling, WWE introduced the fans to the Wyatt compound, where New Day faced the Wyatt family. Bringing back the Wyatt compound may now be under consideration, for a match between Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt.
Watch Matt and Bray exchange some unhinged words on Raw:
What's next?
Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy will continue their feud on Monday Night Raw, where there may be an announcement for their match in the near future.
Author's take
Matt Hardy's 'Broken Gimmick' may be the most popular thing on WWE television at the moment. The fans were extremely receptive to the change in Matt's gimmick, and WWE will do their best to cash in on the popularity and momentum the change of gimmick will bring to the elder Hardy.
