From the WWE Rumour Mill: The Mixed Match Challenge is not a Vince McMahon project
What's the story?
We are only days away from the Mixed Match Challenge. On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, we were informed that the tournament is not a Vince McMahon project.
Instead it is Ryan Ward, whom some of you may remember from the glory days of NXT, who's going to be in charge of the tournament. Fans of the NXT style of television should enjoy this special WWE tournament.
In case you didn't know...
The Mixed Match Challenge is a tournament that will be aired only on Facebook Watch, starting 16th of January.
The tournament will see twelve teams comprising of both male and female WWE Superstars compete in a tournament. The winning team will be able to donate a vast sum of money to a charity of their choice.
Fans reacted both positively and negatively as General Managers Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan paired all the together.
The heart of the matter
Vince McMahon is a pioneer in the business of sports entertainment, having transformed the industry into a monopoly. However, there has been criticism for some of his booking decisions, because fans have found the same far too dated for 2018.
Ryan Ward's booking during the glory days of NXT was a breath of fresh air. He focused more on the in-ring product, than the 'sports entertainment' aspect, putting together an hour of compelling television every week. He was thereafter promoted to the main roster.
What's next?
Starting next week, get ready for 12 weeks of non-stop 'Mixed Match Challenge' action on Facebook Watch. These episodes will occupy the erstwhile 205 Live spot. If you're a fan of Ryan Ward's booking, you should be in for a real treat.
Author's take
I can't wait for this tournament. It should be very different from our regular dose of weekly WWE programming, for sure.
As for whom I'm rooting for, if you've read any of my articles, you'll know I'm team Braun and Alexa all the way through!
