From the WWE rumour mill: WWE star set to make a comeback; Matt Hardy still set to take on Bray Wyatt
What's the story?
WWE may be looking at the return of a superstar from injury. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer, Jeff Hardy may be about to make his return to the ring after the shoulder injury that he suffered.
Also, on this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer talked about the future of Matt Hardy's feud with Bray Wyatt.
In case you don't know...
Jeff Hardy returned to WWE with his brother Matt at Wrestlemania 33 and won the Raw Tag Team Championships in a Fatal Fourway Ladder Match. They would lose the titles to Sheamus and Cesaro at Extreme Rules in a Steel Cage Match. After being involved in a few feuds, Jeff would eventually suffer an injury in September and get sidelined for a period of four to six months.
Matt Hardy went on to participate in Singles competition without his brother and recently adopted the 'Woken' persona completely. Since taking up this persona, which is similar in many ways to the 'Broken' persona he had on Impact Wrestling, he has been involved in a feud with Bray Wyatt.
The heart of the matter
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is almost time for Jeff Hardy to return to the ring. He suffered an injury to his shoulder in September, and he was expected to be out of action for four to six months. Now in February, his return to the ring is due, and with WWE gearing up for Wrestlemania, he may return soon to be involved in the Wrestlemania picture.
"We are about the time for Jeff Hardy to return, so they could do that..."
Whether he will return and join his brother Matt Hardy, remains a question. Matt Hardy is set to continue his rivalry with Bray Wyatt, so Jeff may not become directly involved with his brother. Meltzer described the rivalry between Bray and Matt as a "going nowhere issue".
What's next?
For a while now, Matt Hardy has been teasing the appearance of the Broken Universe in WWE. This may mean that along with the likes of his son Maxel, his wife Rebecca and Senor Benjamin, he may also be joined by Jeff Hardy's alter ego of Brother Nero.
Author's take
Seeing Jeff Hardy as Brother Nero, reunite with Matt, would be a great improvement. Until now, Matt's performance as Woken Matt Hardy has been underwhelming and the addition of Jeff may be just what he needs.
