From the WWE Rumour Mill: Young Bucks not allowed to use iconic WWE catchphrase?
What's the story?
Indie sensations 'The Young Bucks' have indicated through social media that WWE has stopped them from using the iconic D-Generation X phrase, 'Suck It'. They even took a shot at WWE on the 68th episode of their series, "Being The Elite".
The Young Bucks did not mince their words when they made a list of all the notable restrictions that WWE has made with regard to intellectual property. The 68th Episode of "Being the Elite" is also called "Cease & Desist".
In case you didn't know...
The Young Bucks are arguably the most successful tag team to have never stepped into a WWE ring yet. As members of the Bullet Club, they pay tribute to legendary factions of the past such as nWo and DX, with their iconic phrases such as 'Too Sweet' and 'Suck It' followed by a crotch chop.
D-Generation X is a WWE product, and therefore, WWE took the necessary precautions to stop The Young Bucks from using arguably wrestling's most famous catchphrase ever.
The heart of the matter
As glimpsed during "Being the Elite", when The Young Bucks try to say the phrase alongside the crotch chop, the phrase is bleeped out, much to their dismay.
They then realise that it's part of a "Cease and Desist" order from the company. The Young Bucks also allude to the fact that WWE talent will be working on Christmas, through their Tweet.
What's next?
The Young Bucks are legends in their own right, and this small setback should not really stall their momentum. As for WWE, it was only natural for them to be protective about the properties that belong to them.
Author's take
The matter of intellectual property is always a grey area. It's impossible to pick a side in this regard, as each has valid points. As long as The Young Bucks can find a way to work around their restrictions, they should be good to go.
