Frustrated star, huge interpromotional match teased? - 4 possible opponents for Ethan Page following shock title win at WWE NXT Heatwave
WWE NXT Heatwave led to one of the most shocking title changes in recent memory. The NXT Championship, which has been held by Trick Williams, changed hands in unbelievable fashion.
The main event of the evening saw Trick defend his coveted and prized belt in an unfavorable Fatal 4-Way Match. He took on Shawn Spears, Ethan Page, and Je'Von Evans in what turned out to be one of the better Fatal 4-Way Matches in recent memory.
At one point, Trick Williams laid out multiple men with his Trick Shot knee. This led to All Ego falling on top of Je'Von Evans and pinning him while Shawn Spears pulled the now-former champion out toward the floor.
With Ethan Page now on top of the white and gold brand, all eyes are on what he'll be doing next. There is no shortage of talented performers who could end up challenging the new champion and this article will look at a handful of possible opponents for All Ego.
Below are four possible opponents for Ethan Page following his shock title win at WWE NXT Heatwave.
#4. Wes Lee was extremely frustrated after WWE NXT
Wes Lee is one of the most talented performers on the NXT brand. He is a former NXT Tag Team Champion and North American Champion. In fact, according to many fans, Wes is one of, if not the, greatest North American Champions in history.
The talented former member of MSK faced what many feared was a career-ending back injury recently, but he made his shocking return a few months ago. In the time since then, Wes has attempted to win the WWE NXT North American Championship, but has been unable to put down Oba Femi.
Due to his recent loss, Wes can't challenge for that belt again, and he's clearly frustrated over it. Lee may channel that energy into instead focusing on the NXT Championship and All Ego. The two would put on a great match together if given a chance.
#3. Trick Williams will want a rematch
Trick Williams is an insanely over professional wrestler. He started his run in WWE with no real experience but learned alongside Carmelo Hayes. The two eventually split, and Williams came out on top, which is a testament to his ability.
As noted, Williams lost the NXT Championship to Ethan Page at WWE NXT Heatwave. This comes after he won the title from Ilja Dragunov just a few months ago, which was extremely impressive given The Mad Dragon's reputation.
Since Trick lost his title to Ego without getting pinned, he'll surely want a rematch. While the main roster has banished the automatic rematch ruling, there is a chance that the NXT brand will keep it in tow, and thus Williams and Page may clash one-on-one again soon.
#2. Je'Von Evans could become the youngest NXT Champion
Je'Von Evans is bouncy! The new WWE star has only been with the Sports Entertainment juggernaut for around three months, but he's already made a major splash. Fans love him and Je'Von steals the show every time he competes.
Despite only being around for a few months, Je'Von has already main-evented a WWE premium live event. He battled Trick Williams, Shawn Spears, and Ethan Page in a Fatal 4-Way Match for the NXT Championship, the very same bout Ego won.
Evans was arguably the standout performer in the match and perhaps more importantly, he was the one pinned. This would surely light a fire under his belly since the man who pinned him wasn't even aware he was doing it. As a result, he could stake his claim to an NXT Championship match against Ethan Page sooner rather than later.
#1. A Joe Hendry appearance was teased
Joe Hendry is a star who first broke out on the United Kingdom independent circuit before finding success in the United States through Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling. TNA is his current home promotion, which has led to a WWE appearance.
The musician and wrestler made his debut in an NXT Battle Royal several weeks ago, and it caused a major stir in pro wrestling. Fast forward to WWE NXT Heatwave, and a mysterious post-credit scene showed a brief highlight of his music and entrance video, indicating that Joe will soon be returning to the promotion in some form.
While it isn't clear what Joe will do, many believe NXT and TNA will eventually have an interpromotional show of some kind, perhaps named Worlds Collide. If that is the plan, Joe could challenge Ethan Page for the NXT Championship on the big show.
