What's the story?

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, former GFW Global Champion Alberto El Patron has stated that he is hoping to return to the company at some point down the line.

El Patron hinted that he could be back with the company as soon as November, following this year's Bound for Glory.

In case you didn't know...

Alberto El Patron is one of the biggest names in professional wrestling outside of WWE. He had a successful career in WWE as Alberto Del Rio, winning two world championships alongside a Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank ladder match. Del Rio had two stints with the company, both of which ended in acrimonious circumstances.

El Patron made his debut for Global Force Wrestling (formerly TNA) back in March 2017, and was immediately inserted in the World Heavyweight Championship picture. He became the first unified world champion of the GFW era, when he defeated Lashley to unify the GFW Global and Impact World Heavyweight Championships back at Slammiversary in June.

Alberto then moved into a story with LAX, but was soon suspended as a result of a domestic violence issue with his fiancee, WWE superstar Paige. El Patron was stripped of the title in August, and has not been seen in the company since.

The heart of the matter

With the future of GFW up in the air once again, many are speculating that a return to GFW for Alberto El Patron is extremely unlikely. El Patron himself seems to have different ideas however, stating that talks about a return are already underway.

"I've been in touch with Global Force Wrestling, and we are working to bring back Alberto El Patron to the company. We're working to find something that will please the fans"

When pushed on a timeframe for his return, El Patron stopped short of giving a concrete date but strongly hinted that his return could come towards the end of 2017.

"I am completely focused on where I want to take the company in November, and I promise to make the company great again, and Alberto is going to be on top again"

What's next?

The life of Alberto El Patron is far from being a dull affair, and the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is currently doing what he can to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey, the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States in 12 years.

El Patron's tumultuous relationship with former WWE Divas Champion Paige continues to make headlines as well.

Author's take

It is difficult to take El Patron news seriously at this point in time. The former WWE star has been up and down in 2017, winning championships and not showing up at events, and whilst he could be a viable asset for a major wrestling company, he also seems to be a lot of work.

GFW seems to have enough on its plate without worrying about Alberto El Patron.
