What's the story?

On last night's episode of Impact, Jim Cornette announced that Garza Jr and Johnny Impact will do battle on next week's show in order to decide a number one contender to Eli Drake's GFW Global Championship. The winner will get their shot at Bound for Glory 2017.

In case you didn't know...

Impact Wrestling has had few rough months, but this is nothing new for the men and women working for the company formerly known as TNA and GFW. The promotion, arguably the second biggest in North America, is in another transitional period ahead of a potential move to the north of the border to Canada.

Impact's biggest show of the year will still go ahead, however. Bound for Glory takes place on November 5 and will emanate from Canada for the first time in event history.

The heart of the matter

Eli Drake is Impact's top champion going into the event, and his opponent for the show will be decided on next week's episode of Impact Wrestling. Johnny Impact (John Morrison in WWE, Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground) will take on Garza Jr. for the opportunity.

Impact came up short against Eli Drake recently at Victory Road, and the current Lucha Underground Champion will be itching for another shot at the title. Garza Jr. is a totally left-field choice for the biggest match of the company's year, but he has more than earned his shot at glory.

The match was made on last night's episode of Impact Wrestling by outgoing authority figure Jim Cornette, after Drake and Chris Adonis lured Impact and Garza into fighting each other. Garza Jr. had just fought a tough match with Adonis before falling to a two-on-one attack, bringing out Johnny Nitro for the save.

What's next?

The match will take place next week, with the winner going on to challenge Eli Drake for the GFW Global Championship at Bound for Glory on November 5. Spoilers for the show are already available online, but a match between two of the most athletic guys on the roster should be a fun watch nonetheless.

Author's take

Impact may have its issues right now, but the card for Bound for Glory is coming together quite nicely. With many viewers giving up on the company once called TNA, the promotion has been able to develop a strong roster with a number of interesting in-ring feuds in 2017.

Here's hope that the promotion's troubles are soon in the rearview mirror.
