What's the story?

Alberto El Patron has travelled the world showcasing his ability to thrill audiences, draw a crowd, and perform at a top level in the ring. But it would seem Alberto is having some legal issues and he's taking one promotion to court for nonpayment.

Alberto El Patron recently posted on social media saying he was suing one promotion in Mexico who contracted him to work. This was the Tweet he posted:

In case you didn't know...

Since Alberto left WWE he's been performing on the indie circuit all over the place. He's had some highlights and some low points. But overall he's still the same old Alberto we always knew.

The heart of the matter

Alberto is suing XL wrestling promotion and XL Entertainment for fraud after they neglected to pay him and several other workers during a show in May 2017.

Some of the names other than Alberto who are listed in the lawsuit are Blue Demon Jr., Cibernetico, Latin Lover and Tinieblas Jr. These performers were booked for events for the Federacion Universal de Lucha Libre promotion.

Record.MX reports that Alberto and others are suing Alberto Salazar and his lender Aldo Ceja who did not pay for them on May 19, 20, 21 and 27.

Alberto is reportedly suing for the amount of 1,200,000 peso, which at the current exchange rate translates to around $67,556 US dollars.

More legal information will be announced in the next few days and Alberto is scheduled to make a more official announcement with his attorneys present on Monday.

What's next?

Hopefully, as more promoters are called out for treating their workers in this fashion the practice of not paying pro wrestlers will become a thing of the past. After all, imagine working at your job and then just not getting a paycheck when the time came.

We'll have more information about this lawsuit soon, but for the time being it seems like Alberto isn't playing around.

Author's take

Alberto El Patron is a fantastic entertainer. Whether you're a fan of his or not, you have to admit he looks like a star and he plays the part well.

Part of being a star is demanding respect and it shows a pretty incredible amount of disrespect to not pay someone for work they've done.
