Hated champion's next challenger, massive war with major promotion to begin? - 4 directions for Wes Lee following WWE NXT betrayal
WWE presented the second week of the 2024 NXT Great American Bash. The television special featured a handful of big matches. This included RAW's Pete Dunne taking on Trick Williams, an NXT Championship bout, and an NXT Women's North American Championship match.
The main event of the night was another big title match. MSK's Wes Lee and Zachary Wentz challenged the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions, Axiom and Nathan Frazer. The hard-fought bout ultimately ended with the pair, known as Fraxiom, standing tall.
The match was everything fans wanted it to be, but the audience was less happy after the bout ended. In a shocking betrayal, Wes Lee turned heel and attacked both Wentz and their Rascalz stablemate Trey Miguel, even using the stairs as a weapon in the process.
Trey and Zachary were stunned, at least while they were still conscious, and the fans were too. Now that Wes is a heel, though, many are wondering what this means for him going forward. This article will take a look at a handful of potential directions his career could take as a heel.
Below are four directions for Wes Lee following the WWE NXT betrayal.
#4. He could feud with The Rascalz
The story of The Rascalz and MSK is an interesting one. For those unaware, when Wes Lee, Zachary Wentz, and Trey Miguel are all together, they are known as The Rascalz. When it is just Wes and Zachary, however, they are known as MSK.
MSK are former multi-time WWE NXT Tag Team Champions, and many believed they would be again, but after this breakup, that is clearly not happening. Instead, Wes berated them for "abandoning" him, specifically referring to Wentz, who had been let go by WWE several years ago.
After the attack, the most obvious direction moving forward is for Wes to feud with his former teammates. While he will be outnumbered, Lee is never one to back down from a fight and could try to take them both on.
#3. Wes Lee could challenge Ethan Page for the NXT Championship
Ethan Page is a veteran of the pro wrestling industry. He has competed in various indies, ROH Wrestling, and TNA Wrestling. He debuted in WWE a handful of months ago, has already won the NXT Championship, and has headlined multiple premium live events.
All Ego had a big presence on last night's edition of the WWE NXT Great American Bash television special. He put his prized NXT Championship on the line against Oro Mensah and ultimately defeated his talented foe.
Wes Lee has shown many signs of being frustrated over not winning gold. Now that he has eliminated any distractions and has a more aggressive attitude, Lee could focus on the NXT title and challenge All Ego. Could this shocking turn of events lead to Wes winning the biggest title on the brand?
#2. He could feud with Trick Williams
Trick Williams is one of the most popular stars in WWE today, despite being on NXT. The reaction to his theme song never gets old, as fans go absolutely nuts for the charismatic superstar. He is a former NXT Champion and a former North American Champion.
The talented Trick opened up WWE NXT Great American Bash's second show. He went one-on-one with Monday Night RAW's Pete Dunne. In a move that stunned many fans, The Bruiserweight defeated the former NXT Champion after hitting The Bitter End.
Trick is frustrated and is trying to find his way back to the NXT Championship. Wes Lee can relate. This could mean both men will start fighting for the same thing, which could inevitably lead to the two feuding. Could Wes and Trick fight to determine Ego's next opponent?
#1. Wes could start the WWE NXT vs. TNA Wrestling war
Wes Lee's attack on Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel is interesting for many reasons, but one key factor is how it may play into the inter-promotional relationship between WWE and TNA. Zachary and Trey are TNA Wrestling stars.
Not only that, but Wes Lee had even returned to his old stomping grounds of TNA Wrestling and had a handful of matches as part of the deal. His turn and assault may end up causing more strife than expected, however, TNA Wrestling management and stars could see it as a betrayal against the company.
If this happens, Wes may have sparked and could properly start the rumored WWE NXT vs. TNA Wrestling war. Many believe that a Worlds Collide show is inevitable. If that's true, Wes' assault could be what kickstarts the journey into gear.
