How WWE should book Andrade 'Cien' Almas and Rey Mysterio moving forward
For the past month, the two Luchas have been going head to head either in tag matches with Mustafa Ali and Samoa Joe or in singles competition. Though the two put on a show that can make viewers dizzy, the matches between the two are becoming stale as it seems this is the furthest the two may go in their singles careers.
With Andrade 'Cien' Almas receiving more TV time against Rey Mysterio, it was believed this is the beginning of a push for the former NXT champion. However, it became the same match with the crowd becoming less amazed each week when the two perform a reversal sunset flip that lands Almas on the back of his head.
The match between the two was magic the first two times, including the tag matches, but having the same match every week takes the excitement away from the matchup. If the company was going to continue to have these two battle each other there should have been a story behind it at least. Both times Mysterio returned to WWE, he wasn’t involved in any storylines, he was just, well… there.
But there’s hope for these two as there are two possible storylines that can happen to keep the fire between Almas and Mysterio.
Tag Team
A babyface move can work for Almas at this point. What if Mysterio is attacked and El Idolo comes to the aid of his idol to save him? This can lead to the two teaming up and becoming part of the tag division to soon capture the SmackDown Live tag team titles.
Championship/Heel Turn
If the tag title scene isn't a preferred option, the push for the star should continue until he captures WWE championship. It would be easier to bring Rey Mysterio back into the equation but the tables would turn making Mysterio the heel trying to take the title from Almas.
WWE usually have a moment within their roster where a Superstar is stuck in limbo in the same matches before getting a push such as Finn Balor and AJ Styles. But unlike other stars from NXT who come to the main roster, Almas has the potential to become a big star in the company and Mysterio is a legend in the industry so there are more ways the company can use the two.
With the Royal Rumble this weekend Almas is one of the underdog favorites to win, the same speculation is also said about his manager Zelina Vega for the Women’s Royal Rumble.
Who knows what plans WWE has for Andrade 'Cien' Almas in the near future, but this star needs to be utilized and not wasted. If the McMahons and Triple H keep the promise they made a couple months ago then his push will come sooner than later. As for Mysterio, he needs a title run with the US Championship or find a partner to become part of a tag team so his time back won't seem wasteful.
