I'm better than The Rock: CM Punk
CM Punk, WWE champion since 31st October 2011, has recently spoken about his opponent at Royal Rumble this Sunday against whom he will wrestle for the very first time in his life, The Rock. Punk claims that even though comparing him and The Rock in his heydays during the attitude era was like comparing apples with oranges, owing to Punk’s versatile in-ring ability and experience in the independent circuit, coupled with his Muay Thai and Kickboxing training, he is better than The Great One.
Punk spoke with Ariel Helwani recently and below are the excerpts from the same:
Punk on whether he is better than The Rock:
“It’s apples and oranges in my opinion. I think I take this more seriously than he does or ever has. That’s not an insult. I’m like a purist, I know different styles. I’ve wrestled around the world. He’s been a WWE guy. Within that mold, within being a WWE guy, I think he’s one of the greatest of all time. You take him out of his comfort zone… I’m not saying he knows less than I do. I’m trying to vocalize the right way. I’d be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t think I was better than him.”
Punk on whether The Rock is on his level within the ring:
“I haven’t wrestled The Rock but I have been with him, we have done the promo thing and I like what we have done so far. You read on Twitter and some fans think I won, some fans think he won, and its great because that is what the people are talking about. But the fact that I don’t think it was a landslide victory either way, it just makes people question what is going to happen on Sunday and I hope they watch the show.”
Punk on returning so quickly from his knee surgery:
“I was stupid (to return so quickly). I feel the effect of coming back so quickly. It looks like I have a second kneecap on my knee, scar tissue and stuff like that… I don’t think I was 100 percent before surgery, but my knee is definitely better than it was before surgery. I tore my knee up in September against John Cena in Boston Garden. It’s better now than it was, but that’s a relative term, I don’t know what 100 percent means.”
