Impact News: Alberto El Patron says he voluntarily gave up the Impact Global Championship
What's the story?
Alberto El Patron was doing pretty well for himself in Impact Wrestling as their top champion, but then an incident took place at an Orlando airport between him and then-girlfriend Paige where the police filed a domestic assault case.
It didn't take much time for Impact Wrestling to strip the Impact Global Championship away from Alberto El Patron as they commented that his actions didn't represent those of a champion. Now Alberto El Patron says that it was his choice to voluntarily vacate the title as he spoke to The Orlando Sentinel.
In case you didn't know...
Pro wrestling companies need to be very careful when they're picking people to represent them because it could directly represent the company as a whole. Needless to say, whenever a champion or performer gets in trouble with the law in today's society, the action is often required.
The heart of the matter
Alberto El Patron spoke to The Orlando Sentinel about the situation surrounding him losing his Impact Global Championship where he opened up about how it was his choice to drop the title.
“When there was a talent meeting about what to do about the title, I raised my hand and said I should give it up. I used to work in a place where main eventers were difficult to work with, and I didn’t want to be that person. ‘
Here’s the title; give it to someone else. I’ll eventually get it back, but I lost it and I want to earn it. I’ll take responsibility for my actions.’”
What's next?
Alberto El Patron will keep going in Impact Wrestling as his quest to regain the Impact Global Championship will continue on into the new year.
Author's take
Whether Alberto El Patron really did suggest to give up his own title, or he's just working the interview remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, things seem to be going much better for both him and Paige now compared to when the police were called to the Orlando airport in July.
