Impact Wrestling News: Alberto El Patron no-shows Impact vs Lucha Underground main event
What's the story?
The Impact Wrestling vs Lucha Underground crossover event at New Orleans was a huge success and a great show. One big talking point, however, will be where was Alberto El Patron and why did he not take part in the main event as scheduled?
In case you didn't know...
Alberto El Patron is the number #1 contender to Austin Aries' Impact World Title and the pair have been in a heated feud that will culminate at Impact's next pay-per-view on April 22nd, Redemption.
The two were also scheduled to go face to face at the Impact Wrestling vs Lucha Underground main event, with Austin Aries teaming with LU star Fenix, and El Patron teaming with Pentagon Jr.
The heart of the matter
Despite the above match being the advertised one, when it came to the main event Alberto El Patron wasn't there and instead Aries, Pentagon Jr and Fenix faced off in an excellent Triple-Threat match.
Nothing was made of El Patron's absence and it wasn't mentioned on the show, leading to a ton of online speculation about what on earth is going on with the controversial wrestler.
As you can see the opinion on what is going on is divided with many people assuming this is Alberto El Patron, simply being Alberto El Patron and many others assuming this is a work due to Patron's appearance at the press conference for the Redemption match just two hours before the Impact vs Lucha Underground show.
What's next?
Apparently, the press conference between Alberto El Patron and Austin Aries got a bit heated with several personal things being said. With that in mind, there's every chance Alberto could be legitimately upset with something Aries said so refused to appear. Alternatively, it could very easily be a work to help sell the match and the effects of the press conference.
Author's take
If this is a work it's a bad idea. That's all I'll say. Personally though, I don't think it is as I can't imagine why Impact wouldn't want to build their main title feud properly during a show as big as this crossover show was.
