Eddie Edwards injury update: Impact Wrestling star injures his knee
What’s the story?
Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that Impact Wrestling star Eddie Edwards injured his knee during the last of tapings for the weekly television show. He will be undergoing surgery on that knee shortly.
In case you didn’t know...
Edwards was with Ring Of Honor from 2006 to 2013. He would become the first ever Triple Crown Champion of the company, meaning he was the first to capture the World, Television, and Tag Team Championships.
Within Impact Wrestling, Edwards has been the X Division Champion twice, World Tag Team Champion five times with Davey Richards, and was the eighth Triple Crown Champion within the company.
The heart of the matter
Impact Wrestling has not announced how severe the injury is at this time. A timetable for his return was not disclosed either, but he will not appear on their return to Iowa this coming May.
He was recently in a heated feud with his ex-tag team partner Davey Richard, and just before that he captured the Impact Wrestling World Championship for the first time in his career.
What’s next?
Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for any updates on the injury as we receive them. Once he is further evaluated, Impact Wrestling will release the approximate time of how long he will be out.
Author’s take
Hopefully, Eddie’s injury is just a little tweak because he’s finally broken through as a main event singles player on Impact Wrestling. For a company that is hitting the reset button, they need fresh top stars to help generate more buzz.
Edwards was one of the great stories of 2016 when he defeated Bobby Lashley for their top title. Even though he’s small in stature, his place in the main event scene is more than deserving.
