Impact Wrestling News: Sami Callihan talks about his Impact debut, leaving WWE and more
What’s the story?
Impact Wrestling’s newest signing and former WWE superstar Sami Callihan recently sat down to have an interview with Wrestlingepicenter.
During his interview, Callihan revealed a lot regarding his decorated wrestling career and spoke regarding Impact Wrestling, Combat Zone Wrestling, WWE, and Lucha Underground as well.
In case you didn’t know…
Sami Callihan, 30, has recently signed a contract with American promotion Impact Wrestling. Earlier this month, the Ohio native also made his debut for Japan’s top promotion, New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he made his debut in the on-going World Tag League.
Callihan has also been a former tag team partner to Dean Ambrose, during their CZW days. The 30-year-old has also previously worked under the WWE NXT banner as Solomon Crowe, but left the company in 2015, after working three years for Vince McMahon's company.
The heart of the matter
During his interview with Wrestlingepicenter; Callihan commented on his Impact debut, his time as a WWE star, his creative role in CZW and more.
His Impact debut at Bound for Glory:
Sami said that making his debut for Impact Wrestling was personally a great experience for him. He said that it was special for him due to the unpredictability of it, which he thinks added more aura to it.
His relationship with Jake and Dave Crist (OVE):
When asked about his friendship with Jake Crist and Dave Crist, Callihan stated that it is “pretty bad***” that he gets to be on national TV with two of his best friends on the planet.
The former AAW Heavyweight Champion then added by saying that the three of them [Sami, Jake, and Dave] have always had each other’s backs during tough times and have been like a family to each other.
“We’re 3 messed up kids from Ohio that went to bat for each other and had each other’s back when we don’t really have a family.”- Callihan stated.
On leaving WWE and working on the Indies:
According to Sami, he believes that wrestling has currently entered a new era, the era of Independent Wrestling. He also thinks that it is great to witness all these Indy promotions around the world doing so well and thinks that wrestling as a whole is getting better due to the fast-rising and ever-growing popularity of Independent Wrestling.
What’s next?
Sami Callihan is currently busy wrestling in NJPW’s World Tag League, where he has been teaming up with Juice Robinson and together the duo is known as “Death Juice”.
However, during the interview with Wrestlingepicenter, the former IPW World Heavyweight Champion also hinted towards a possible return to Lucha Underground for season 4 and thinks that it is a possibility for him to return to the Lucha Underground in the near future.
Author’s Take
Sami Callihan has always been one of my all time favourites and it is great to see him wrestling for so many promotions at the same time, including two global companies in Impact and NJPW. He has also been doing a great job as the head of creative for CZW.
