Impact Wrestling (TNA) News: The Hardys transform the TNA Tag Team titles

Impact and the Hardyz have been at each other for a while now

What’s the story?

The saga between Impact Wrestling and the Hardy Boys has been well-documented, largely because of their online presence. Matt Hardy was at it again when he posted a new video to his YouTube channel that chronicles the Hardys’ most recent action in the saga between them and their former employer.

In case you didn’t know...

Matt and Jeff Hardy reinvented themselves as their tenure in TNA was coming to a close. Matt became, “Broken,” and Jeff would soon follow suit once he was rechristened, “Brother Nero.” The Hardy brothers left Impact Wrestling due to a contract dispute in February 2017.

The Hardys were still the TNA Tag Team Champions when they left the company and never returned the belts to their former employer. Impact explained this away by splicing together footage of the Hardys teleporting in order to capture more Tag Team Championships with footage of Decay holding the TNA Tag Team Championships.

The brothers would then make a surprise appearance at Ring of Honor’s Manhattan Mayhem VI event, taking the ROH Tag Team Championships from the Young Bucks. They showed up to the event using the “Broken,” gimmick that they used in Impact Wrestling.

The Hardys successfully defended their newly won ROH Tag Team Championships at the 15th Anniversary Show when they defeated the Young Bucks and Roppongi Vice in a Las Vegas Street Fight.

Their appearance at that event was not without controversy, however.  Shortly before the event, Impact Wrestling sent out cease-and-desist letters to ROH and several cable providers, threatening legal action if the Hardys used the “Broken,” gimmick again.

The heart of the matter

The new video that Matt Hardy posted on YouTube today shows the brothers putting the belts into the “Lake of Reincarnation,” before revealing a new set of Championship belts.  The belts appear to have House Hardy logos on them. The description of the video is as follows:

“After exerting everything within our VESSELS to make TNA trendy and cool again, we were betrayed by the OBSOLETE OWL. Since we carried the TNA Tag Titles to a CELESTIAL plane, as well as becoming greater than our host, the #7Deities mandated that I REINCARNATE these.”

What’s next?

The Hardys will defend the ROH Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks in a Ladder Match at Supercard of Honor this Saturday. It is believed that the brothers are WWE-bound after that.

Author’s take

This video was awesome, but it will probably spur Impact Wrestling to attempt to take legal action again. I can’t help but feel that the Hardys/Impact Wrestling saga will continue for quite some time.
