Indian Pro Wrestler Zoro discusses Dangal Ke Soorma, Chris Masters, his MBA degree & more (Exclusive)
24th of August is a significant day for pro wrestling in India because Wrestle India Network will launch 'Dangal Ke Soorma', a show that pits 21 incredible Indian wrestlers against the best international wrestling superstars.
With DSPORT as the television partner, these men and women will have a chance to take their brand of art to numerous homes across the country. Leading the charge for the Cruiserweight Division is Zoro, who's just as shy and soft-spoken in person, as he's explosive in the ring.
Luckily, I had a chance to be on-ground for the tapings, where I saw the kind of commitment and determination that the athletes, both Indian and international brought into the ring. Zoro says this is precisely what will set the show apart:
The thing that is so different about the show is that the wrestlers are so passionate about it. You can see it by just watching their matches.
Zoro is living his childhood dream of entertaining the masses, by telling stories under the bright lights. He has some advice for others that may want to follow in his footsteps:
I think the best advice I can give anyone is to stick with it, because many people tend to give up after 1 or 2 months. Some of the moves I perform took 6 months to perfect.
Without divulging too many details, I saw Zoro pick up a Championship early on during the tapings. I ask him how much titles mean to him:
Personally, it's more important for me to have a good match than to just win a Championship. That match where I won the Championship, that was probably one of the most fun matches I've had in a while. The combination of both made it a memorable moment for me. Good match where I won the Championship.
I've known Zoro for some time now. Born Zorawar Singh Jamwal, he is one of the most educated pro wrestlers that I've interacted with, considering the fact that he holds an MBA degree (Masters in Business Administration). He mentions that even while he was studying, pro wrestling was all that he was obsessed with.
The biggest name to star in 'Dangal Ke Soorma' is former WWE Superstar Chris Adonis (whom you may know as Chris Masters). I ask Zoro what it was like to interact with such a big name and share the locker room with him:
Growing up, I didn't like him because he was a heel (Laughs). But face to face, meeting him was amazing. Backstage, he was just like any other guy. He was such a nice guy.
Zoro names Singapore based pro wrestler Alex Cuevas as his favorite opponent at Dangal Ke Soorma. The two men took one another to the limit on four different occasions. But whom would he like to face in Season 2?
Just from the roster I'd really like to have a match with Baliyan Akki. I think we can really have a really, really good match. But I'd really like to have a match with Brian Cage (Impact Wrestling world champion). He can do anything.
Ultimately, Zoro assures me that this will be a very different show for pro wrestling fans:
I just think that the show is very different. If you've never watched Mexican pro wrestling and you watch Triplemania, you think that the show is very different from everything you've seen before. If you watch this series, it is so different, so colorful and vibrant. If you've watched the promos, they're so good looking. Just give it one chance and you'll really like it.
