What's the story?

Former WWE Superstar Austin Aries has been on a roll since leaving the WWE earlier this year, having signed up and wrestled in various wrestling promotions around the world.

Now, the former 205 Live Superstar has signed with British promotion, Defiant Wrestling.

In case you didn't know...

Aries was released by the WWE in July this year and after the expiry of his 90-day non-compete clause, signed for several indie promotions, including House Of Hardcore and World Series Wrestling.

Aries is the current WSW Heavyweight Championship.

Defiant Wrestling, which was earlier known as What Culture Pro Wrestling (WCPW), was relaunched earlier this week with former WWE Superstar Wade Barrett (Stu Bennett) serving as the promotion's General Manager.

The heart of the matter

During the unveiling of Defiant's new roster by Bennett, where Bullet Club member and current Defiant champion Marty Scurll was on the mic, Aries interrupted the duo.

Aries was greeted by a very enthusiastic crowd and revealed his reasons for joining the Defiant roster.

Aries said that he was to exclusively wrestle for IPW: UK, but a business proposal from Bennett wasn't something that he could turn down.

He said that he now intended to give the fans what they wanted and working with pro wrestling companies that did it the right way. Aries also said that he respects Scurll, but that he has a big target on him - pointing to his Defiant Championship belt.

Scurll welcomed Aries to the promotion but told him to get to the back of the line to have a shot at his belt to which Aries replied that Scurll can't decide when he faces off against him, and warned him that "his time was up". The two almost came to blows before they were separated by the General Manager.

What's next?

Aries will feature on Defiant's next event at Leeds, England on December 11th, 2017.

Author's take

Austin Aries seems to be making good use of his time away from the WWE. A feud with Marty Scurll is a match that brings two of the best talents in the indies facing off against each other - one that's going to be a memorable one!
