Pro Wrestling News: The Young Bucks turn down offer for WWE 2K19
What's the story?
A report came out last week from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the day after the WWE sent the Young Bucks a cease and desist, WWE Games and 2K reached out to the famous indie tag team about doing motion capture for WWE 2K19 next year.
A fan recently asked Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks about the offer, and he confirmed that it was true and also confirmed that they turned them down. Check out that tweet below:
In case you didn't know...
The Young Bucks and the WWE have been at odds over the past few weeks ever since the Bullet Club did a Degeneration X-style takeover of Monday Night Raw when they were in Ontario, California.
The incident was the result of the WWE sending the Bucks a cease and desist for using the Too Sweet gesture on merchandise. Former Ring Of Honor wrestler Jimmy Jacobs was a casualty of the incident as well as he posed with the Bullet Club for a picture even though he is a member of the WWE creative team.
The heart of the matter
Due to the overwhelming amount of gamers who were downloading create-a-wrestler versions of The Young Bucks, the developers at WWE Games decided to reach out to the Bucks to do motion capture in order to get their signature moves into the game.
As Meltzer mentioned the Bucks are in high demand right now. Their shirts are selling well at Hot Topic, and they are only getting more publicity due to the cease and desist from the WWE.
It is unknown if WWE officials were aware of WWE Games reaching out to the Bucks for motion capture. It is safe to say that based on the legal threats they are posing to the tag team, the WWE management wasn't aware of the offer.
What's next?
The Young Bucks head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this Friday, October 20th for the next Ring Of Honor television taping. Expect an appearance by the Hung Bucks; who are the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions with fellow Bullet Club member Adam "Hangman" Page.
Author's take...
That is very odd that WWE Games would think The Young Bucks would agree to take part in something related to the WWE after what happened with the cease and desist.
I guess it falls into the "doesn't hurt to ask" category.
I'm afraid the actions of the past few weeks may have hurt the chances of the WWE ever landing The Young Bucks, but as they say, time heals all wounds (and so does money).
