Indie Wrestling News: Austin Aries wins yet another title, addresses belt collection
What’s the story?
Austin Aries has taken to social media so as to address the fact that he’s added yet another pro-wrestling title to his belt collection.
Aries recently won the Defy Championship, after also having captured several other titles, since his departure from the WWE.
In case you didn’t know…
Austin Aries, whose real name is Daniel Healy Solwold Jr., has competed in the sport of professional wrestling since 2000.
Aries rose to prominence in TNA (now Impact Wrestling), as well as with his consistent performances on the indie circuit, including notable promotions such as ROH.
The heart of the matter
Austin Aries performed for the WWE from 2016, until his departure from the promotion last year, following which he’s been quite vocal about his opinion that he deserved greater opportunities than what was accorded to him in WWE.
Since parting ways with the WWE, Aries has been on a self-proclaimed mission to win titles the world over. Under his new 'Belt Collector' gimmick, Aries has captured the WSW title, the Defiant Championship, the IPW: UK World Championship, the Impact World Championship, as well as the Impact Grand Championship.
Adding to his aforementioned belt collection, Aries won the Defy Championship, by defeating Swerve (Shane Strickland) at Defy’s Vibes event. Aries took to Instagram to address the same; an excerpt of which has been noted as follows:
"Last night continued to prove why I love being a #prowrestler doing #prowrestling right now. @defynw has something cool going on in the NW right now. Well run, good locker room, and a legion of rowdy, loyal fans. Some weren't happy how I swerved "Swerve" @stricklandshane, but sometimes that's what it takes to beat a top talent and stay #TheBeltCollector. Thank you @defynw and it's fans for a really fun night. See you soon. Time to celebrate."
What’s next?
Austin Aries is presently set to continue performing on the independent professional wrestling circuit.
The vast majority of professional wrestling experts believe that Aries is likely to primarily perform for ROH and Impact Wrestling.
Author’s take
Austin Aries is good at performing with any opponent put across the ring with him.
Aries seems to have made it a goal to ascend to the next level of what he refers to as his mission of collecting professional wrestling belts the world over.
It’ll be interesting to see how many titles Aries can win and defend in the days to come.
