WWE Rumours: Introduction of new Championships on SmackDown! to be delayed

Becky Lynch is touted to be the first Women’s Champion on SmackDown!

One of the biggest rumours following WWE Brand Split was that Shane McMahon will be introducing a brand new set of Tag Team Championships as well as a new Women's Championship for SmackDown to fulfil the void created during the Brand Extension drafts.

Both the WWE Tag Team Champions, New Day, and the then Women's Champion, Charlotte, were drafted to Raw.

However not only Shane did not mention anything about the rumoured championship during the first post-draft episode of Smackdown Live, but now it looks like we may not get to hear anything about these new titles at least until SummerSlam.

As reported by Cagesideseats.com, the current plans are to keep running things as they are on SmackDown, and to not introduce any new championships at least till SummerSlam which happens in 3 weeks.

The reason behind this decision is said to be the fact there will already be a WWE Universal Championship match on the PPV and the officials don't want to fill the card with Championship matches for vacant titles as they don't want the feuds for new titles to feel forced.

The rumoured plans are to introduce both of the titles on the first Smackdown-only PPV, Backlash, next month. While there is no news on who could be the first Smackdown Tag Team Champions it's being said that Becky Lynch is currently the top choice to become the first Women's Champion on Smackdown.
