Is Cody Rhodes actually injured? The truth revealed about his condition

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes won his match against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event, but the night ended up being a nightmare for him. Cody was attacked from behind by an angry Owens, who later delivered a package piledriver on him. The American Nightmare was seriously injured and had to be stretchered out of the ring, and later taken to the hospital.

WWE later revealed in an update that Rhodes had suffered a cervical swelling and was diagnosed with an axial compression of the cervical spine. He was also assessed with a cervical strain with spasm. The WWE Universe has one major question now: Is Cody Rhodes actually injured? The answer is no.

Cody Rhodes' injury is mostly kayfabe and it was done to explain his absence from the upcoming episode of SmackDown which has already been taped. However, Rhodes might be away for at least a month or so, as similar neck injuries have kept superstars away from the ring for a significant period.

Before Rhodes, it was Randy Orton who was the victim when Kevin Owens delivered a piledriver, leaving him with cervical cord neurapraxia. Both Orton and Rhodes might now be away from WWE for a while.

Rhodes might return in January before Royal Rumble and square off against Kevin Owens at the premium live event. Randy Orton, too, might return at the same time to take revenge against Owens.

WWE veteran feels Cody Rhodes' character is stale

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo has slammed Cody's current direction in the Stamford-based promotion, saying his character has become stale. While speaking on Vince Russo's The Brand, the veteran said that the fans were bored of Cody's character and that no compelling storyline led to his championship matches.

"He's getting stale as a character because they're not doing anything with him. Nothing. There's no story, there's nothing. He's just going out there and wrestling," Russo said. [From 14:25 - 14:35]

There was similar criticism about Cody's direction post-WrestleMania 40 when he defended his WWE title against superstars like Logan Paul and AJ Styles. It was then said that the company had no direction for Cody after WrestleMania 40, and was booking him against WWE superstars without detailed storylines and feuds.

Be that as it may, Cody Rhodes has been the Undisputed WWE Champion for more than 250 days, and is expected to retain the title till WrestleMania 41. It remains to be seen which superstar will finally dethrone The American Nightmare as the Undisputed WWE Champion.
