Is Shane McMahon here to stay in the WWE?

Our ears are still ringing with the ‘Holy shit’ and ‘this is awesome’ chants

While the WWE Universe has barely regained firm footing after being flashbanged by Shane McMahon’s return this past RAW, speculation has already arisen as to the tenure of his stay in the WWE.

We were inroduced to an interesting perpective by Christopher Harrington of Wrestlenomics. According to him, Shane’s company in China, You On Demand (YOD), has aspirations of being a market leader in OTT content, but is facing serious impedimants.

Shane has reportedly injected millions of dollars of personal wealth into the company but its losses are in the range of $6-16 million over the past seven years, with depredations from piracy and state censorship.

After stepping down as CEO a couple of years ago, Shane continues to be associated with the company as ‘Founder and Vice Chairman’. Shane-O’s most recent contract had him employed with YOD for two years starting in 2014, with a one-year extension by default if he wasn’t terminated. But with the influx of new investors, Shane’s role with the company has reduced.

There is nothing concrete regarding Shane’s current capacity in the WWE or if he’s left YOD, though the grapevine is abuzz that he will leave post-WreslteMania. This might well be an attempt to form a symbiotic relationship, aimed at increasing WWE’s presence in China, which would augur well for YOD as well.
